Hajj & Umrah Duas
The key supplications for your journey, in Arabic, phonetic transliteration, and English — a free reference to keep close as you prepare. Wording and specific practices can vary slightly between schools of thought; your group leader is always a good person to ask if you're unsure.
The Talbiyah
Recited repeatedly from the moment you enter ihram until you begin Tawaf (for Umrah) or until the stoning at Jamrat al-Aqabah on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah (for Hajj).
Labbayk Allahumma labbayk. Labbayka la sharika laka labbayk. Inna-l-hamda wa-n-ni'mata laka wal-mulk, la sharika lak.
Translation"Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily all praise, grace, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner."
Niyyah (Intention) for Hajj or Umrah
Made silently in the heart on entering ihram at the Meeqat — there's no single fixed wording required, but this is a commonly used form.
Allahumma inni uridu-l-hajja fa yassirhu li wa taqabbalhu minni.
Translation"O Allah, I intend to perform Hajj, so make it easy for me and accept it from me." (Replace "al-hajja" with "al-'umrata" for Umrah.)
Entering Masjid al-Haram
The general dua for entering any mosque, said on entering Masjid al-Haram.
Allahumma-ftah li abwaba rahmatik.
Translation"O Allah, open the gates of Your mercy for me."
On First Seeing the Kaaba
Widely recited by pilgrims on their first sight of the Kaaba — a moment many describe as deeply emotional. Sincere personal dua in your own words is equally valid here.
Allahumma zid hadha-l-bayta tashrifan wa ta'ziman wa takriman wa mahabah.
Translation"O Allah, increase this House in honour, greatness, nobility, and awe."
During Tawaf (Between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone)
Recited during each of the seven circuits of Tawaf, between the Yemeni Corner (Rukn Yamani) and the Black Stone.
Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar.
Translation"Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire." (Qur'an 2:201)
Starting Sa'i, at Safa
Recited on ascending Safa at the start of Sa'i, before walking to Marwah.
Inna-s-Safa wal-Marwata min sha'a'irillah.
Translation"Indeed, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah." (Qur'an 2:158) — followed by Takbir (Allahu Akbar, three times) and personal dua.
The Day of Arafah
Reported as the best supplication made by the Prophet ﷺ and the prophets before him on the Day of Arafah.
La ilaha illallah, wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulk wa lahul-hamd, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir.
Translation"There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He has power over all things." (Reported in al-Tirmidhi)
Setting Out on the Journey
The traveller's dua, recited when setting off — worth reciting at the start of your journey to Saudi Arabia itself.
Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar. Subhanal-ladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila rabbina lamunqalibun.
Translation"Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. Glory be to the One who has made this subject to us, for we could not have done it ourselves. And indeed, to our Lord we will return." (Qur'an 43:13-14)
This is a starting reference, not an exhaustive list — your group leader can guide you through additional duas for specific moments of your journey.
